Golan Heights- 9/7/11

I first would like to say that I think Destination Israel has run a great program so far.  They are very well planned with what we are doing and seeing.  But, I must say we made it to the Golan Heights.  The view is awesome.  From the Golan Heights you can see Syria and Jordan and the tour guide told us that the green area of the picture is one of the countries.  We also did a hike on both days but I will just make one blog post regarding my adventures of the Golan Heights.  The second day of the hike was like a real hike.  We hiked by going through rocks and all that stuff.  I was quite nervous doing this but I made it and felt so much better.  When you conquer your fears it only makes you stronger as a person.

At the Golan Heights there were United Nations army men and women, as well as, Israeli army men and women.  I definetly got some pictures of me with some army people.  Also, there are beautiful pictures of the incredible view.  However, I didn't get any pictures but we went kayaking in a river(didn't want to break my camera with water) and that was awesome.  So much fun.  The kayaks had cushions on them and they were like bumper cars.

  1. Hey Matt,

    A few things...

    1. The united nations 'army men and women' you saw were observers, not soldiers. They're part of what's known as UNIFIL - United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon. The joke is, that 'interim' is not really accurate given that they were meant to be a temporary force, in southern lebanon, since 1978. They really have no mandate to do anything, don't carry weapons, and Hezbollah in southern lebanon completely does whatever it wants without any consequences from UNIFIL. There are no UNIFIL observers on the Israeli side of the Golan.

    2. The soldiers you that aren't wearing the IDF green, but rather the khaki camo in your pics look like US soldiers. Most likely on some exchange trip from the US doing some joint training, ops, or something.
